Ocean
Farmed Salmon is the best choice for Omega 3 fatty acids
according to the Seafood Choices study conducted by the
Institute of Medicine. In response to a request from the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA),
the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies reviewed
evidence on the benefits and risks associated with seafood
consumption to recommend ways to guide U.S. consumers in
making seafood selections to meet their needs. Please visit www.salmonfacts.org or

Respectable
sources delivering information are the key to acquiring accurate
data to those interested in sustainability of our environment.
For some time now the Monterrey Bay Aquarium has promoted their “Seafood
Watch List” listing which seafood to avoid without any
scientific merit. The Monterrey Bay Aquarium is misleading
consumers by catergorizing seafood in such a way that they
are discouraged from eating a variety of seafood altogether.
Science and research through stringent review processes have
provided factual data on the sustainability of aquaculture
in an effort to reduce over fishing and meet the global demand
for healthy omega 3 rich protein alternatives like farmed salmon.
We encourage you to visit the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration which includes the most up to date and accurate
sustainability resources for seafood. |

Greenpeace
is launching a campaign against U.S. Retailers that do not
adhere to their recommended seafood list as supported by
the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch List. Salmon of the
Americas Inc. is involved in the counter measures that have
been taken by our colleagues at the National Fisheries Institute
(NFI) and would like to provide our members with factual
data in effort to educate their customers and strengthen
our defense against Greenpeace and other NGO’s. Recently
the NFI wrote to major retailers throughout the United States
addressing the erroneous propaganda spread by Greenpeace
that has continuously been trying to demarket our industry
using scare tactics towards consumers with no scientific
evidence or merit. |
