In
recent years, Americans have
been drowning in stories about
"toxic" tuna sushi and mercury levels in fish.
Since most of those reports — including the federal
government's — have relied on activists for health
advice, it's no surprise that so many
consumers are shying away from the
seafood counter. But thanks to new
research from Harvard University, the tables may finally
be turning in
favor of the scientific evidence about the benefits of eating
seafood. As
this research confirms (again), fish really is brain food.

In
a comprehensive analysis of human studies, Harvard School of
Public Health professors Dariush Mozaffarian and Eric Rimm calculated
that eating about 2 grams per week of omega-3 fatty acids in fish,
equal
to about one or two servings of fatty fish a week, reduces the
chances
of dying from heart disease by more than one-third. Both observational
studies and controlled trials have also demonstrated that the
omega-3 fats in fish are important for optimal development of
a baby's brain and
nervous system, and that the children of women who consume lower
amounts of fish or omega-3's during pregnancy and breast-feeding
have

| Salmon
of the Americas Inc. revealed its latest brochure “Ocean
Farmed Salmon. Today’s Brain Food” at the International
Boston Seafood Show this year. The brochure uses the chart “seafood
choices” conducted by the Institute of Medicine of
the National Academies listing Farmed Salmon as the best
choice for Omega-3 fatty acids and lowest in mercury. These
new tri-fold brochures are available to our members and their
customers to assist them in continuing our mission of promoting
the many health benefits of consuming this wonderful protein!
